Hi everybody! (see below if you want to skip to the free song link)

Ok we've got some actual news! Susannah Sandow's new CD "Champagne Tea Party" is ready for pre-order, and you can hear the whole dern thing on her spiffy new website:

http://www.nquit.com/susannahsandow

Susannah is a rock-n-roll singer/songwriter who's been helping out at NQuit for a couple years now, and this is her debut CD, which she produced with the help of San Francisco neo-classic rock band The Melotones (http://www.melatones.com), especially a guy named Lewis Ames.

You can listen on Susannah's new site, and right now even download every single track for FREE (just click on the Download For Free link under the album cover in the player on http://www.nquit.com/susannahsandow/audio.php)! Please do and put it on your iPod (or other superior mp3 player) and spread it around - give it to everybody, there's no penalty! And if you want a shiny physical copy of the actual CD, just pre-order it in her store and we'll send it to ya soon!

Ok once again that's http://www.nquit.com/susannahsandow

===============

Other little tidbits: I (Aaron) added my store back to my website - you can see it and buy stuff I've made at:

http://www.nquit.com/aarontrumm/store.php

We also added a couple products to the NQuit store (http://www.nquit.com/products.php) - namely, Susannah Sandow's new CD "Champagne Tea Party" and three poetry chapbooks by me (Aaron).

================

Oh I almost forgot to give you a direct link to a free song! Let's do the first track from Susannah's CD - it's called "I'm In A Rock And Roll Band":

http://www.nquit.com/sounds/SusannahSandow/ChampagneTeaParty/01SusannahSandowImInARockAndRollBand.php

Rare Entry

Well chipper fans and rogue dog scholars, here it is, March of two thousand fucking six and I'm telling you, people, it's been a weird 6 months.

I keep telling myself to believe. Believe. Believe. Believe believe believe. I chant mantras, I do the dirty dishes, I watch the girls in yoga class. I'm getting somewhere with that, and so are the other NQuit dudes and dudettes (are there any dudettes right now?). Still, I don't put many updates here on the news page of NQuit because I don't think anyone's reading. That, and we've been a bit dormant recently, as we uproot everything again and again, as I lay quiet in the ivory tunnel (because I feel underground, not towering) of Stanford University earning a master's degree.

But the funny thing is, things are happening. They are indeed happening. I'm to the mastering stage of my album, which means it's basically finished but there's a little spit and polish to put on it. Dominguez's acoustic album is mastered and ready for graphics, which means you could see it available within a week or two. A new Third Option album is underway. Dominguez has got a new project underway, there are inklings (and tracks) of a new electronica act. Dustin is freaking out and doing graphics as usual.

I think we're all just trying not to ask ourselves why these days, and we keep doing what we do despite what we might be thinking in bed at night.

But you know, fuck it. This is NQuit, and one thing I do know, is we're here, we've been here for a decade, and we keep getting better and doing more things. We can wonder all we want, in the end, our legacy is beyond us and our thoughts and wonderings. Fuck 'em all, cheeseball. Do what you must. We'll do what we must.

Look for us. I'm not gonna bullshit you. When we blow up, we'll blow up. I won't have to give you a bunch of hype about how such and such record is much anticipated or so and so (usually me) is supposedly being talked about. Fuck 'em man. You can just come and see through the bullshit with us and we'll do what we do. And when you anticipate something from us, well everyone'll know, and we'll give it to you.

Love and rockets, mufuckas.

-- Aaron Trumm
Prez
NQuit

Well then. Here it is, 2 days before 'ol Valentine's Day. Berkeley, CA is home to the NQuit crew now, soon to be moved to a permanent spot either in Oakland or the South Bay.

Larry Lines' album, "Numen" is out now, you can get it!

Also, check out our new CafePress shop! We'll be building that up and of course making things directly available through the NQuit site. So wear the NQuit logo proudly, mothers and daughters of the revolution! :)

That's about it. Check back or ask us directly to hear when the studio's up again. We live and work on a floor in an 8x8 room right now, but that's no reason to stop! GAR!

Cheerio all!

- Aaron Trumm
Lead Salamander
NQuit

Well, dear fans and obsessive-compulsive internet checkers, here it is. December 13th, 2004, and NQuit is gearing up for another cross country move.

The studio will be pissed at us, for tearing it apart again, but it will see, it will be glad we did.

In the meantime, there's writing and production going on for Aaron's (that's me, btw) next CD, as well as dominguez's upcoming music CD. Much back and forthin goin on.

Look soon, maybe in the next hour or so, for Larry Lines' CD, "Numen" to appear in our catalog.

Also look soon for a new NQuit subsite, the Aaron Trumm site, a site all for lil 'ol me!

In one week, for all those in Albuquerque, Dustin and Aaron (me) will both be in Albuquerque, NM and Taos, NM, to, well, to visit the fams for Christmas. There might be an open mic appearance in the cards, and I'll let you know if this is the case.

Until we see eachother again, this is Aaron saying "good night, Mrs. Calabacitas, wherever you are."

------
Aaron Trumm
Head Asshole, NQuit

Entry #12, November 10, 2004

I wanted to think about something. The roots of everything pretty are underground. I said this 8 or so years ago on my 2nd CD:

...deep underneath that crust of the earth
are animals that really have some girth to their worth
you're growin up the flowers of commercialization
forever will the roots remain UNDER the nation...

This speaks the legitimacy of the underground.

But what of the underground? How long can a seed stay under the soil? Is it not the seed's destiny to grow into a mighty oak or a beautimous bloom?

I could easily quote Howl now and make my point - I've seen the best minds of my generation - blah blah blah. Which is to say, we, the counter culture, we, the underground, are destroying ourselves. Sure, I imagine there are some that shall and should always be under, down, deep deep deep, feeding the rest, and some that never know the power of the earth, and that never realize that who THEY are, what THEY see, what THEY know to be "normal", is always and necessarily the child of the underground.

The seed becomes the seed first, then it becomes the oak. Not the other way around. These places here, the Helios bar in Houston, the Nuyorican Cafe in New York, the Blue Dragon in Albuquerque, these are the places where we come from, where we cut our teeth, and where we owe our undying allegiance.

But a man child doesn't stay at home with mommy when there's a battle to be fought. Disregarding for a moment my notion that battle may not be the answer, I would say to those of us with fire in our bones, why are we still here, cowering in the underground, smoking weed and methamphetemines, drinking ourselves into obvlivion, when so many of us have grown into might oaken warriors and have always known it is our task to take these amazing new things that were born in the underground out into the overground and into the sky?

Why, if we are unsatisfied with our leaders in government, are we not running for offices? Why, if we are unsatisfied with our pop icons and movie stars, are we not replacing them?

We spend far too much time speaking harsh words against our brothers in the sky, when in truth, they are merely humans like us, only they have chosen to sprout. Sure, too many of them have sprouted, forgotten where they come from, and begun to choke the very nutrients out from under themselves. No, I do not think it is alright for George W. Bush to run around smiling and laughing taking golf vacations when some of us have three jobs and 11 grand of debt, and still others are begging for change under bridges. No, I am not surprised. This has always been the way it is. It's not even necessarily wrong. But TOO MANY people are disatisfied and DOING NOTHING.

I'm not a politician. I'm an artist. I'm a performer. So what should I do? I was reminded last night of the concept of my circle of influence. Yes. I shall operate within my circle of influence. I shall perform. I shall create. And when someone who has been languishing underground for 2 or 5 or 15 years, a choking struggling oak tree pretending to be a seed, I will hand that mother fucker a shrink wrapped package with his name on it.

This is what I can do. Next, I will do more.

I'm not going to Baghdad to do nothing for no one. I'm not going to Taos to hide in the fucking mountains like a coward. I'm not going to hole up in Thailand making records, as if making random recordings for no one to hear had anything to do with anything. I'll see you in L.A., the fray, New York, Washington, Houston, London. I'll see you on the streets of Bangkok or on the front page of the Times. I'll see you on Jay Leno and Windows Media Player. I'll see you in the Helios throwing bags of cocaine into the street. I'll see you SOMEWHERE, is the point.

Now I say, here's the test, here's where most people fail, where G.W. is failing, where Capital Records is failing, where all of us at the Helios are failing: Is this about me? Is this is a contest? Will I be preaching to the democrats and left wing whiskey drinking poets to stand up, fight for yourself, and win the battle? Fuck 'em all? You're nothin if you don't take care of number one? Wouldn't I just be a conservative then? When will I flip over and become what I hate? Do I have to? Or can I dig myself out from under the earth, fly into the big pretty clouds and BACK again, and never become bitter, mean, cold and heartless? I've proven to all that I can win a damn contest. You don't believe me, come throw a punch at me, see what happens. But what is the POINT of that? What is the point of being ALONE on Mount Olympus? I'm not here to take everyone out, for God's sake. That would just be BORING.

This week I will be handing one of those packages out to somebody that said three times last night, "I will battle compassionate conservatism with compassion."

Understand what that package is, my man. That's the dirt coming off. That's the seed pushing through the thawing ground, that's the oak, that's the bloom. Could be a new nation or a simple CD. Still an oak, still a bloom, still worth showing someone sometime.

See you in the fray.

Whoa. A month since the last stuff. Wow.

Well, first of all, Smudgey, the resident NQuit cat, fears the subwoofer.

Second of all, Smudgey, the resident NQuit cat, isn't sure what to make of accoustic construction going on in the Millenium Falcon, which, in case you hadn't been told, is what we've been calling the studio/home of the president (of NQuit, not the nation).

Third, check out www.dominguezpoetry.com. This is dominguez's website, and look very soon (could be days!) for dominguez spoken word EP "Political Poems From The Space Between The Finger Of Adam And The Finger Of God"

(or some equally ridiculously long title)

Much craziness going on...will report again later...

- Aaron Trumm
Aka Han Solo

WOO DAWGY! It's been a hectic one the past couple weeks. First off, don't forget to read below for simple details about T Shirts being available...

Fun news items:

You missed it if you weren't at Helios last Wednesday at midnight. I (Aaron) and Alex Wukman, a poet who creeps around the Houston scene quite a lot, decided to get the late show started off with a Canadian Bucket Match. Well I did my poem Revolution to start, and boy howdy did it turn great! I got into it, got off the mic, people were listening, I slapped the pole, I slapped the table, and I decided to clink a glass ash tray on the table for emphasis, but boy, I done did it too hard! :) It busted into a mazillion pieces and it cut me up somethin FIERCE. I was bleedin all over this venue, it looked like somebody'd been stabbed in there! Not to worry folks, I'm clean as a whistle! But boy, that was some seriously intense poeming! I really had a blast! Of course Alex wouldn't be outdone, and next thing I knew, I looked up at Alex calmly doing a poem about the links in the chain of life and such, totally naked, with a huge chain wrapped around him. *smacks forehead* Fun times!

The great irony is two days later, I'm sitting in a room with Professor Mel (who you will hear the electronica stylings of on NQuit later this year and next), and Count Rapula (a crazyish Houston rapper/punk bassist), looking at the biggest TV on Earth, watching Gigi Allin take a dump on stage and throw it at people. This is probably not the kind of thing I'd do, because I go for the passion thing and accidentally getting cut but not stopping type of deal, as opposed to the poo type of deal, but what an irony nonetheless!

Other than that, universities have started to be in session, which means something for me, as I'm doing some intense studies this year, but it doesn't mean we'll disappear!

I've been making homemade shirts myself in my free time, so if you want a random punkster lookin plain white NQuit.com tshirt, just post a comment. I'll be givin them out for 3 bucks, and very many lucky winners will get 'em for less or free (some already have!). I may even make a paypal link and everything! In the meantime, post a comment, or email aaron@nquit.com! :)

Also look on www.nquit.com in the coming few weeks for a bunch of mp3s to start cropping up. We'll start adding random daily free mp3s and we have a plan to catalog the whole damn collection from day 1, stuff like this. I won't hesitate to add new unreleased stuff to the random rotating free mp3 list so keep coming back to be kept up to date :)

Until next time

NEVER NEVER QUIT!!

- Aaron Trumm
Emperor of the NQuitpire
NQuit

Sometimes I thought it might be nice to say something other than just the details. So here's a bit of an email that I wrote on the fly to some NQuitters:

---------------------

I have this idea, see if you agree, that we can easily add some value to our promo products that isn't usually there. Like, you might get a Kiss clock, right? - well we're not Kiss, so the value isn't in that huge name, not yet. But it's like, it's like a movement. Like every product really kinda has a purpose or a reason or some value of it's OWN, it's like we're spreading some kind of IDEA - eventually the NQuit logo gets represented with this idea - less like Kiss and more like Sex Pistols - where there's a general cultural movement underlying it - Dustin has his vision of that, it's on his statement at www.nquit.com/dustinsweet - I've had my various visions, which are similar to twistedpop.com's vision - Larry's got his vision, Eric's got his, and so on, you know, but they all turn into this sort of movement and it's like people kind of rally around it so it's "bigger" than just a shirt that says "The Toadie Boys" which only means anything to like 40 people that have seen The Toadie Boys in concert, but especially if there are things on the shirt that are there for themselves, like "Just do it".

I mean think about that - why did Nike use that? Because how are you gonna be a "fan" of nike? Why would you wear a nike shirt? Why would you watch their commercial? You wouldn't, except that you do, because there's this saying that you get into, you believe in that, you think "yeah, you SHOULD just do it" and you wear this shirt that Nike would've never sold otherwise, because you want to tell people that you believe in "Just do it". You don't care about Nike, but there's the f****** swoosh and you've just sold another 20 pairs of shoes for that company.

But it doesn't have to be shoes, and it doesn't have to be some evil company like Nike that if you look behind the saying you think "Oh please, f*** those evil b*******!"

It could be a f***** shirt that has a Beatles logo and "All you need is love" printed on it. Plus, the teeny boppers'll buy it cuz of the novelty. Or it could be a f****** NQuit logo that says "Die Strong" or "Never Never Quit" for \god's sake; people will rally.

F*** the egos. F*** an Aaron Trumm shirt, unless there's something to promote like nquit.com/aarontrumm. F*** believing in US as individuals, believe in the movement. The movement is for the people, it can be everybody's. It can be OWNED by the customer, the fangirl, the old guy in the audience. We don't f***** matter. It's the MOVEMENT. Next thing you know you've done something for the f****** world, AND you've sold out of Larry Lines cds and retired to Bora Bora with Iggy and his pack of ten year old playmates.

And the movement can FLEX too - you can put twistedpop.com or dominguezpoetry.com on a shirt right next to nquit.com anytime you want. Two, three, four movements can work in tandem like two, three, four people can work in tandem. There's nothing in the way. There's no particular way that it has to be done. It doesn't have to be mean, or punk, or rock, or poetry, or loud, or ANYTHING. It's just f****** share every f****** bit of every f****** creative thing you ever had, just share it with the whole world.

That's how you can be an ARTIST and not have to "have a job"; because you don't do it for you! You do it for people! You do it for the movement! You vote for Kerry! ;) You don't bother with being a politician, you don't bother with looking up to Condoleesa Rice, you f***** look up to Jelo Biafra (how do you spell his name????) and you go for it and i swear to you, in 8 months, everything you ever dreamed of is there, everything to boost your ego, everything to suit your tastes, and s***, you didn't even rob anybody. You just give give give - give give give give give and voila, viva la movimiento cabrone!!!!!!

You may have seen dominguez and me screwin' 'round at Fitzgerald's open mic this past Wed. You might see us screwin' 'round there again. You might also see us screwin' 'round at Helios on Westheimer and Taft Wednesdays too. We may be known to bounce back and forth between the two.

Not many changes since last Wed, however. Been on a bit of a holiday, which consists of a little bit o drinkin, carousin, giving stuff away, and only a couple hours here and there recording. Although we did make a couple dents in my new album, and some headway on dominguez's joint.

Well, break time is mainly over (3 or four days of relative tom foolery every 3 months or so is alright, right??), so I'll let you know when the next round of changes and news comes about!

signing off,

- Aaron Trumm
Mula Man With Crown Of Slippery Chickens
NQuit

First off, these updates is now viewable on nquit.com! Right here! Of course you may already be looking at it from there! In which case, don't bother to click that ;)

In case you didn't know, there is a weekly poetry slam in Houston now. It's at the Proloteriat, every Saturday, 6:15 open mic, 7:15 slam. 6pm sign up, first 8 poets to sign up for slam are in. $2 drink specials. Proloteriat is on Richmond a block or so East of Montrose, on the South side of the street. Big red building.

That said, last night was one of the rare non open slams, because there was a little mini Texas regional. I was invited to be on a pick up team to compete against team Houston and Corpus Christi. It was very good to be on stage, it always is, I love it, and I miss it when I am in the lab so damn much.

THAT said, the National Poetry Slam is next week! You may or may not see NQuitters there (ie me or dominguez) wandering around, but you will definitely see team Houston there, so if you're in St. Louis Wed. Thurs. or Fri. or Sat, find out about it and get down to a venue or 9! I wonder who I'm talking to...

THAT said...well that was about the last of it. Tommorrow's a studio day, so back to the lab grind.

See ya next entry!

-- Aaron Trumm
Ball Busting King of The Goddamn World
NQuit

By the way, if you ever want to visit and there's not some kind of gig, 'ol Aaron (me) is quite often to be found downstairs at Fitzgerald's, White Oak and Studemont, in Houston. He (I) will be the surly sound man behind the mix desk. For example, tommorrow, Fri. 30th. $10 gets you in both upstairs and down tommorrow - Faceplant is upstairs - they are really rockin, actually - rock/metal/rap/abilly shit with signs and hats and loudness and fun. Very good.

Major database overhaul still chugging along. We've gotten and dealt with most of the replies from my little mail out, got in touch with some old friends via that mail out, yaHOO! :)

Little tweaks to Cult Of Nice site, see if you can tell what changed (right, sure, like it's that big a change).

Some odd problems in the studio with multitrack software eating session files as if it was an ADAT eating tapes. I guess you can't avoid it *sigh*

But then again, many little jury-rigged improvements made to the little NQuit hovel I like to call the Millenium Falcon.

Kicking around the idea of making up some shirts. Everybody does it. But I don't want a damn navy blue T shirt with a 100 lines of text info, our street address, 8 phone numbers, 17 emails, websites, pictures of Biggee Smalls, pictures of girls, etc. I like the idea of a bunch of people running around with these damn spray painted shirts that say NQUIT.COM for no apparent reason ;)

I did a prototype of such a wife-beater sleeveless grey red spray paint hi i'm jelo biafra's evil cousin shirt. Perhaps I'll post a picture. And perhaps I should post a picture of the two prototype NQuit pullovers, which you know everybody's gonna need one of when it gets chilly.

That's gonna do it for now, boys and girl. Did some tracking for some remix stuff with Larry, took some photos for Larry Lines album "Numen". Funny thing, a promoter that Larry had talked with extensively wrote me a cold email the other day. Very odd.

More late nights in the studio recently.

Long day in studio yesterday. Among other things, we cut six straight spoken word tracks by Dominguez nice and easy, and will be available in a week or so. This short sweet EP (which is really good writing man) is called "Political Poems From The Space Between The Finger Of Adam And The Finger Of God"

Also, there's a few pieces of random gear we're selling.
A short update this evening - status pretty much the same. One piece of new news, there is now a weekly poetry slam in Houston, at the Proletariet, Richmond half a block East of Montrose, on the South side, red building. (how's that for having no street address on me???)

Saturdays, show starts at 7pm, sign up for the slam starts at 6pm. There's only 8 slots so poets, get there early if you want to perform.

The first ever Proletariet slam was tonight, which, I, your very own Aaron Trumm, was the winner of, with three time Houston Slam Team member Karega coming in only two tenths of a point behind.

More to come!

- Aaron Trumm
El Presidente de la Muerte
NQuit

Well, folks, it's time for NQuit to blog a little bit. Why? Oh, I don't know. Perhaps as a promotional tool. Perhaps to generate interest in ourselves. Perhaps because even the busy get bored.

The haps today for NQuit:

- Eric Dominguez (poet, musician) will be spitting verse tommorrow (Friday 7/16) on Houston's KPFT Radio - 90.1 on your FM dial in the Houston area. That show airs, I believe, at noon. I MIGHT show up at air time as well.

- Much studio work going on at NQuit homebase, (which I'm beginning to call the Millenium Falcon for reasons you might guess) with me (Aaron) and a Houston poet/musician named Eric Dominguez. Collaborations will yield something for the general public before the year's out, I expect.

- Larry Lines is in Houston right now, and we did some retracking of "Right On Time", which is on his upcoming CD "Numen". We thought we'd try some dance remixes of this totally singer/songwriter type album.

- NQuit database and websites being hacked and hacked and crunched and crunched. This is a slower project than it should be, but eventually nquit.com should see thinks like a ressurected links page that has thousands of urls that might be useful to musicians or music fans or poets or poetry fans, or whatnot. Also a newly organized and utilized DB will hopefully allow us to be in better touch.

- Eric Dominguez is in the "Old Man Clothes Room" (the Millenium Falcon iso booth) right now singing a track called, tentatively, "Peace Be With You".

- That oughtta do it for this entry, tune in next time!

-- Aaron Trumm
President
NQuit
